High School
The high school volleyball tournament opens tonight. In local action…
- Division Four, District 98 – Dollar Bay-Tamarack City opens at the Copper Island Academy. L’Anse plays at Baraga. Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Chassell, with coverage at 5:40 on the Voice of the Lakes, KBear 102.3.
- Division Three, District 65 – West Iron County plays at Ironwood.

Baraga dominated the major All-Copper Mountain Conference volleyball awards released yesterday. The Vikings were named Team of the Year, Elisa Delene was named Most Valuable Player, and Corey Pietila was honored as Coach of the Year. Ironwood’s Kiaya Graser was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Local players named to the Elite Team include Mya Hendrickson from Baraga, Payton Goldsworthy from Lake Linden-Hubbell, Ellie Kuntz from Chassell, and Bree Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek. Additional players named to the Copper Country Division First Team include Mya Hendrickson from Baraga, Ashlyn Steves from Lake Linden-Hubbell, and Ava Nye from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City. NFL
The Lions handed the Vikings their first loss of the season, 19-15 yesterday. Jared Goff hit Jameson Williams with the game-winning touchdown pass with 4:35 remaining. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 153 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown dash in the third quarter. It was a costly win, as Detroit linebacker Jack Campbell was carted off the field with a neck injury late in the game. He spent the night at a hospital for evaluation.
In last night’s contest, the Commanders pounded the Eagles 27-10.
The Bears visit the Seahawks for tonight’s contest.
