MDOT to conduct nonstructural damage repairs on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge

Portage Lake Lift Bridge repairs will occur next week. Between Monday and Wednesday, the Michigan Department of Transportation will conduct nonstructural damage repairs to the bridge caused by high load hits. Motorists should expect single lane closures for northbound traffic on M-26/US-41 each day during the project. Work expects to last until 3 pm between October 19th and 21st.  

These repairs ensure the Portage Lake Lift Bridge remains a reliable connection for communities north of Houghton. This repair work is unrelated to the major lift span infrastructure work MDOT plans to share more details on in 2027.
