A major residential fire in Negaunee Township Monday night that left one person dead is currently undergoing investigation by the Michigan State Police. The cause of the fire remains to be determined.
Just before 9 p.m. on Monday, MSP troopers were dispatched to a residence on M-35 in Negaunee Township. While one male resident was able to evacuate the structure, and was treated for injuries caused by severe burns. The other resident, a 67-year-old man, was found deceased inside after the Negaunee Township Fire Department extinguished the fire. The man’s family was subsequently notified.
