Gogebic Community College has just received a $476,496 grant to expand advanced manufacturing training in the Western Upper Peninsula. The grant, awarded through the Michigan Industry-Driven Skills Training Program (MIDSTP), supports GCC’s efforts to increase their ability to train the next generation of manufacturers in the region.
While continuing to utilize the university’s existing educational facilities, the grant allows the school to enter into partnerships with companies in the industry to give their students hands-on experience. All locations will use an identical curriculum, compatible equipment and a shared instructor pool.
“This investment gives Gogebic Community College an opportunity to bring advanced technical training closer to the people and employers who need it,” said Glen Ackerman-Behr, GCC Business faculty member. “In a rural area, we cannot always expect employees to travel an hour or more to access training. This grant allows us to reduce that barrier while building training around the skills employers actually need.”
Gogebic Community College is a community college based in Ironwood, Michigan that has an additional campus in Houghton. Founded in 1932, it has a focus on career-oriented programs that prepare students for employment through real-world experience.
