Richard A. “Dicky” Andrews, 85, a resident of Painesdale, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the UP Health System- Portage Hospital shortly after being admitted.
Richard was born on October 5, 1940, in Trimountain, to the late Thomas and Irene (Raisanen) Andrews. He was raised in Painesdale and was a graduate of Jeffers High School with the class of 1958.
Following high school, Richard joined the United States Army and honorably served until 1961. When he returned to the Copper Country, he met Jean Rashleigh. The couple were married on January 25, 1964.
Mr. Andrews had worked for Champion Mine in Painesdale, White Pine Mine, and retired as a Bus Driver and custodian for the Adams Township Schools.
Richard was a 50-year member of the Wyandotte Hills Golf Course where he won 11 best ball tournaments and a handful of other scrambles. He carried a single-digit handicap well into his 70’s and also made a hole-in-one. Beyond the golf course, Richard was active with the Lion’s Club, serving a term as King Lion. He was in charge of distributing the Lions Mints, which he enjoyed doing as it got him out to different venues to talk to many people. He was also in charge of organizing the 4th of July Lions Fundraiser in South Range where he also cooked the hot dogs. Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and being in pool and bowling leagues.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William.
Richard is survived by his wife: Jean; His children: Lee, Terri and Jay(Jennifer); His grandchildren: David(Joslynn), Claire, Leah, Richard, Nicholas and Kylee; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service for Richard will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 10:00 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Range Lions Club.
