In volleyball last night…
- Houghton swept Westwood 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-12).
- Calumet won a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 27-25, 25-16) battle at Kingsford.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell breezed past Bessemer 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-12).
- Chassell blanked Ontonagon 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17). For the Panthers, Elli Kuntze had 18 kills, 1 block and 9 digs, Sylvia Aho had 21 assists, 7 digs, 9 service points and 2 aces, Oriana Olson had 2 kills, 2 blocks, 12 digs, and 2 aces, and Skye Isaacson had 10 service points, 2 aces, and 6 digs.
- Ewen-Trout Creek outlasted L’Anse 3-1 (28-30, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16).
- In a triangular, Forest Park blanked North Central 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-4) and Norway 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-17).

On the football schedule tonight:
- Houghton entertains L’Anse, with coverage around 6:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
- Calumet hosts Negaunee, with coverage around 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. The game will feature a 9-11 observance. Local first responders and active and retired military personnel are invited to help hold a large flag on Agassiz field during the pregame ceremony. Those wishing to take part should arrive around 6:30. At 7:00, during the national anthem, two Michigan Air National Guard helicopters will fly over the field. One will be flown by Calumet High School alumnus Jensen Schneiderhan, who is a pilot with the Air National Guard. At halftime, the incoming members of the Calumet High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced. They will be officially inducted at a ceremony tomorrow morning at 11:00 at the CLK School Commons. Community members are invited.
- Hancock will host Manistique, with coverage around 6:40 on the Voice of the Bulldogs, Lite 96.3 Houghton’s Breeze.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell travels to Munising, with coverage around 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team welcomes Saginaw Valley State tonight at 6:00, then hosts fifth-ranked Grand Valley State Sunday at noon.
The Northern Michigan women’s team welcomes Grand Valley State this afternoon at 3:00, and Saginaw Valley State Sunday at noon.
The NMU men’s squad entertains the University of Jamestown tomorrow at 1:00.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and host the Rockies tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Mason Adams. We’ll join the game after Lake Linden-Hubbell football on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers also had yesterday off, and entertain the Reds tonight. Dustin May will pitch against Andrew Abbott.
NFL
In Melbourne, Australia last night, the 49ers clobbered the Rams 27-7.
The Lions open their season with a 1:00 home game against the Saints on Sunday.
The Packers begin their campaign with a 4:25 contest at Minnesota.
Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs entered “no contest” please yesterday to misdemeanor count of battery and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property. The charges stemmed from an alleged domestic violence situation at his home in May. At his court appearance in Brown County, Jacobs said he fully understands the seriousness of the situation, and takes full responsibility. Jacobs was sentenced to a $1,000 fine and court costs. He also agreed to stay away from the alleged victim in the case, pay restitution, and seek counseling. He remains on the NFL’s Commissioner’s Exempt List, and is barred from playing or working out with the Packers.
