- Houghton at the Beast of Northeast Tourney – no report.
- At a triangular at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, the host Blue Bolts defeated the Copper Island Academy 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) and Superior Central 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21). Against the CIA, Freshman Ellie Keranen controlled the court from the service line with 13 service points, including 4 aces. Hannah Keranen led the offense with 10 kills along with 6 kills from Laila Bell. Kiya Kemppainen defended the court with 18 digs. Setter Sylvie Kentala finished the match with 13 assists. Against Superior Central, defensive specialists Kiya Kemppainen, Ava Nye, and Ellie Keranen set the tone of the game, combining for 38 digs. Leading the offense were Hannah Keranen with 7 kills, and Lillian Pelland-Rippey and Haley Pakkala with 5 kills each. Sylvie Kentala had 17 assists and led from the service line with 12 service points, including 3 aces. Superior Central downed the Academy 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22).
College Volleyball
At the UP North Tournament in Marquette…
- Michigan Tech swept its matches against Cal State East Bay 3-0 (25-16, 24-23, 25-22) and Winona State 3-0 (25-221, 25-18, 25-17). Rachel Zurek had 14 kills in the opening match, and 17 in the second.
- Northern Michigan downed Tiffin 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20).
College Soccer
- The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team will host Saint Cloud State today at noon.
- The Northern Michigan women’s soccer team entertains Minnesota Duluth today at noon.
- The NMU men’s soccer team will visit Tiffin today.
MLB
Kevin McGonigle singled home Javer Báez in the bottom of the ninth to give the Tigers a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Dodgers yesterday. Keider Montero pitched into the sixth, and gave up a run on four hits.
The Tigers wrap up that home set against the Dodgers this afternoon. Framber Valdez will start against Tyler Glasnow. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers logged their fourth straight win with a 5-3 victory over the Rangers yesterday. Jackson Chourio and William Contreras homered. Shane Drohan allowed a run on six hits over five innings to earn the win.
The Brewers host the Rangers again today. Dustin May will pitch against Kumar Rocker.
NFL
The Lions survived four turnovers, and wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 25-16 victory over the Colts yesterday. Backup quarterback Josh Dobbs led three touchdown drives. Jacob Saylors ran for 100 yards.
