Victor Matson Jarvis, 36, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, in Northglenn, Colorado.
Victor was born June 5, 1989, in Paradise, California, the only child of Mark Jarvis and Rosalie (Matson) Jarvis. During his childhood, he lived in California, Michigan, and Virginia. He attended elementary school and junior high school in Paradise, California. Following the death of his mother in 1999 and his father’s stroke in 2003, Victor moved to Hancock, Michigan, where he lived with his uncle and aunt, Dave and Lani Siirtola.
Victor experienced the fun of having a sibling at the Siirtola home after Ebonnie Conner moved in. Victor and Ebonnie often joked and laughed together, and many times she introduced Victor as her little brother when he met her friends. They took driver’s ed at the same time and participated together in the youth choir called “2X2”.
Victor attended Dollar Bay High School, graduating with honors in 2007. While in high school, he was on the student council and he was a member of the Dollar Bay High School Bowl Team and the Copper Country Cross Country Ski Team. He developed a close group of friends during those years, and many of those friendships continued throughout his adult life.
Victor attended Sunday school and confirmation classes at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock. He also served for several years as a junior helper at the summer vacation Bible camp at Lahti Retreat Center.
In 2004, Victor participated in a Mexico mission trip with his friends from California. He subsequently participated in two Mexico mission trips with Zion Lutheran Church in 2005 and 2006.
Following high school, Victor attended Michigan Tech for one semester and then worked for a year before entering the U.S. Air Force in 2009. After completing basic training, he was stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked as an assistant to an ophthalmologist. He found this work very satisfying.
After leaving the Air Force, Victor worked in Las Vegas for about three years. He then returned to Hancock for a year before moving first to Oregon, then to downstate Michigan, and finally to Colorado.
On October 11, 2022, Victor was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in downtown Denver, suffering a traumatic brain injury. He underwent numerous surgeries at Denver Health Trauma Center, followed by more than a year of care at Kindred Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, and more than two years of care at Malley Care Center in Northglenn, Colorado. His family is deeply grateful for the excellent care Victor received at all three facilities.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Rosie Jarvis; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lila Jarvis; and his maternal grandfather, Richard Matson.
He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Norma Matson of Washington State; maternal aunts Emily and Jennie; maternal uncles Tony, Jesse, and Rodney; paternal aunts Lani, Loretta, Lona, and Luella; paternal uncle Kevin; and numerous cousins and friends.
Beginning in March 2023, Bonnie Glaser, a caregiver with Visiting Angels, began visiting Victor three times a week. Over time, she developed a close relationship with him and provided exceptional communication with nurses and staff at the facilities, helping to share concerns and ensure that his needs were communicated. She also regularly provided Victor’s family with information and pictures. In 2025, during Bonnie’s absence, another Visiting Angels caregiver, Gina Ayon, provided excellent care for over six months.
In the summer of 2025, Victor became more aware of his surroundings. He developed definite preferences concerning the music and videos played for him. He happily watched videos of animals and listened to sermons, and he appeared to enjoy interacting with his caregivers. When the old-time hymns, “Amazing Grace” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” were played on Bonnie’s smartphone, Victor mouthed the words in his effort to sing along
A memorial gathering and burial for Victor will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, Michigan. Everyone is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity to share memories of Victor. In the event of severe weather, the memorial gathering will be held at Zion Lutheran Church. Refreshments will be served following the gathering in the dining hall at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 Ingot Street, Hancock.
