College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this fall. The preseason coaches’ poll has Ferris State ranked as the favorite. The Bulldogs received nine of the 11 first-place votes. The other two went to Grand Valley State, which was picked to finish second. Wayne State was projected to finish third, and Northern Michigan fourth. Lake Superior State was tabbed for 10th place out of the 11 teams in the league.
Twilight League
The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League tournament title will be decided tonight when Garnet Garage entertains Northern Driveline at the Houghton field. The best-of-three series is tied at a win per team.
MLB
The Tigers’ late-season fade continued with a 4-1 loss to the Rays last night. Framber Valdez gave up all four Tampa Bay runs over six innings. Brett Callahan’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning drove in Kevin McGonigle for Detroit’s only run.
The Tigers welcome the Rays again tonight. Jackson Jobe will start against Ian Seymour. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers have signed veteran reliever Tyler Kinley, who was recently released by the Braves. To make room for Kinley on the active roster, the Tigers sent Ty Madden down to Toledo. To make room on the 40-man roster, Ricky Vanasco was designated for assignment.
The Brewers had last night off, and begin a series in New York against the Mets tonight. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Zac Thornton.

Erkkila Forest Products claimed the Copper Country Horseshoe League tournament with a narrow 5-4 victory over Dreamland in the championship match last night. In other results…
