MLB
Hau-Yu Lee singled home the winning run in the top of the 10th inning, and the Tigers defeated the Giants 3-1 yesterday. Lee scored an insurance run on a groundout to seal the win. Troy Melton turned in another ace-like performance, allowing four hits and one unearned run over six innings. Kenley Janson got the win after striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth, and Tyler Holton earned the save by striking out the side in the bottom of the 10th.
The Tigers have today off, and open a home set against the Guardians tomorrow. Drew Anderson will start against Tanner Bibee. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The win moved the Tigers into second place in the American League Central Division, three-and-a-half games behind the White Sox, and a half-game ahead of the Twins and Guardians. Detroit is one game behind the Rangers in the race for the final wild card playoff berth
The Brewers shaded the Twins 4-3 in 10 innings yesterday. Jake Bauers’ single in the bottom of the 10th was just deep enough to score Brice Turang, whose headfirst slide into home plate just beat the tag. Jackson Chourio hit a leadoff home run, and Bauers homered in the fifth. Jacob Misiorowski gave up a pair of home runs over six innings. He also recorded nine strikeouts, including the 200th of his career. Only one pitcher in MLB history has reached that level faster – Spencer Strider for the Braves in 2023.
The Brewers visit the Padres tonight. Logan Henderson will pitch against Casey Mize.
Milwaukee rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt has been sent to the injured list with a hamstring strain. Journeyman utility player Jihwan Bae, who had just been signed to a minor league contract, was quickly called up from Nashville to fill in. The Brewers also designated pitcher Drew Rom for assignment.
NFL
The Lions will not have veteran Teddy Bridgewater as their backup quarterback this season. Bridgewater has left the team, and been placed on the reserve/retired list. It’s the second time Bridgewater has retired. He stepped away after the 2023 season, but returned the following season. He played for the Buccaneers last year.
To fill the gap, Detroit has signed veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs is 31 years old, and backed up Drake Maye with the Patriots last season.
