Local internet service provider ShoreWaves Internet has announced its imminent transition to a community-owned co-op format to maintain uninterrupted service to its clients after the company announced it would be closing July 31. At this time, there are no plans to change service plans.
ShoreWaves surveyed its customers to determine the consensus regarding next steps as the company morphs into a new entity.
“Based on the survey results, over 60% of respondents wanted to keep the internet, the ShoreWaves service,” said Jim Northey of ShoreWaves. “Another group also said ‘we already converted to other services like Starlink, but we would consider coming back.'”
Currently, work is being put into creating the not-for-profit cooperative organization, which would allow current customers to receive their present level of service without any considerations on behalf of the client. ShoreWaves states that most of the work being done is behind the scenes and will not be seen by the end consumer.
