Barbara Jean (Verbanac) Walters, 75, of Boswell, PA, passed away peacefully early Monday morning on July 27, 2026, at UPMC Somerset with family by her side after a courageous three-month battle with cancer. Barb was born March 22, 1951, in Hancock, Michigan, a daughter of the late Steve and Jeanne (Chaput) Verbanac. She was raised in Mesnard, MI along with her eight siblings. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald E. Walters; daughter, Kelly (Brien) O’Donnell of Mechanicsburg; son, Brad of Somerset; granddaughter (Barb’s pride and joy), Lehanna Walters; three brothers and five sisters, Michael (Cindy) Verbanac of Rosemount, Minn., Marie Letto of Green Bay, Wisc. Steve Verbanac of Port Wing, Wisc., Susan (Ron) Antila of Suamico, Wisc, Dianne (Roger) Brown of Normandy Park, Wash., Carolyn Ragen (Jon Coger) of Green Bay, Wisc., Mary (Dan) Flannery of Coleman, Wisc., Dan (Jeanne) Verbanac of Green Bay, Wisc.; aunt, Olga (Ron) Barnes of Pewaukee, Wisc.; Barb’s special extended family, Earl (Kelly) Walters of Burlington, VT. Barb was fondly known as “Auntie Babs” by her many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Barb was a 1969 graduate of Hancock Central High School in Michigan. She and Don met at a dance when he was in the Navy boot camp. They soon married and moved to Boswell. Barb was a Unit Secretary at Somerset Hospital and then Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her kind heart and spirit touched everyone she met. Although she was not afraid to speak her peace, Barb’s sense of humor made up for it. Whenever she walked into a room the place lit up. She was always the life of the party. This past March, Barb’s family surprised her with a party on her 75th birthday. Some of her sisters flew in for the occasion. The element of Barb’s surprise (and shock) was priceless. Barb loved going on visits to Upper Michigan where she grew up. She enjoyed music, dancing, shopping on QVC and watching her favorite shows on television. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell. Barb will be sorely missed. Her memory will live on by all who knew and loved her. Barb’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial mass will be held 11AM Friday, August 14 at All Saints Catholic Church, Boswell, PA with Rev. Fr. Aron Maghsoudi, Celebrant.
