Casey Mize tossed another gem, but the Tigers fell to the Royals 3-2 Saturday. Mize allowed a run on three hits over six innings. He left with a 2-1 lead, thanks to Hao-Yu Lee, who doubled home Riley Green in the second inning, and hit a solo home run in the fourth. Salvador Perez’s solo shot in the seventh off Kyle Finnegan tied the game, and Nick Loftin’s homer off Jacob Waguespack in the top of the ninth provided K.C. with the winning run.
The Tigers conclude that home set against the Royals this afternoon. Framber Valdez will start against Luinder Avila. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Javier Báez’s return is getting closer. He had three doubles yesterday in a rehab appearance for the Mud Hens. Jackson Jobe turned in four solid innings in a rehab start at Erie yesterday – his longest outing as he recovers from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
The Brewers held off the Rockies 8-5 Saturday. Robert Gasser allowed two runs over six innings. Cooper Pratt homered, and he and fellow rookie Luis Lara each drove in three runs. Colorado plated three in the ninth off Lance McCullers, Jr. and Trevor Megill, but Megill held on to earn his 17th save of the season.
The Brewers host the Rockies again this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Kyle Freeland.
