The Cubs torched Framber Valdez for six runs in the first inning, and cruised past the Tigers 11-2 last evening. Valdez recorded just two outs before leaving the game. Infielder Zach McInstry pitched the seventh inning, and catcher Jake Rogers took the mound for the eighth. Dillon Dingler’s two-run homer in the ninth provided all of Detroit’s scoring.
The Tigers visit the Cubs again tonight. Keider Montero will start against Colin Rea. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Jack Flaherty is the latest Detroit pitcher to land on the injured list. After struggling in his most recent start, he was diagnosed with inflammation in a muscle in his pitching arm. Team officials hope a couple of weeks off will resolve it. Ty Madden was brought up from Toledo to fill in.
The Brewers collected just four singles in a 4-0 loss to the Mets. Brandon Sproat pitched into the fifth, and was charged with two runs on four hits.
The Crew hosts the Mets again this afternoon. Logan Henderson will pitch against Christian Scott.
College Football
Bryan Parker has returned to the Michigan Tech football staff as wide receiver coach. Parker coached outside linebackers for the Huskies in the 2021 season before moving on to stints at Kent State, Valparaiso University and Coastal Carolina.
NFL
The Packers and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt have agreed to a contract extension – $57 million over three seasons with a $20 million signing bonus.
