Mary Moilanen (Herlevich), 73, of Hubbell, entered heaven peacefully, surrounded by family, Sunday July 19, 2026, following a battle with cancer. She was born in 1952 to Arvid and Dorothy (Bradshaw) Ranta of the Houghton Canal.
She graduated from Houghton High School in 1970. She had a first career of 25 years managing JoAnn Fabric stores, and then became the House Manager for 10 years at the Omega House when it first opened.
She enjoyed her annual vacation trips with “the crazy ladies”, and many vacation adventures with her grandkids (see Alaska Salmon photo). While at home, she was always encouraged by her best friend, the cat, Sammy, that she inherited from her Grandson. She always liked her annual campground visits with all of her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her second husband Paul Moilanen; her grandson, Riley Herlevich, and an infant brother, Michael Ranta.
Surviving are:
Her children: Dawn Herlevich (Chris Asiala) of Rochester, MI, and Jon Herlevich (Cheryl) of Atlantic Mine, and her wonderful grandchildren Eliot Herlevich (girlfriend Bree Jones) of Atlantic Mine, Paige Herlevich (Rick Riede) of Portsmouth, VA; Her brothers Gordon Ranta (Renee) of Calumet and Ricky Ranta of Gross Point Shores, MI.
