The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will complete $1.8 million in improvements to the Keweenaw Waterway Upper Entrance, modifying a critical 370-foot stretch of breakwater.
The project includes an option to add a 50-foot segment to the breakwater wall, which will help mitigate stamp sands traveling further into Lake Superior.
“This project will offer the Army Corps of Engineers an opportunity to add to the breakwater wall and continue to mitigate stamp sands traveling further in Lake Superior,” said Corey Weston, resident engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers.
The work runs through October 1st. During construction, beach visitors should park near the Picnic Pavilion on Canal Road.
