In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play this evening…

MLB
The American League held the National League to just three hits in last night’s 4-0 All-Star Game victory. Eleven A.L. pitchers combined to strike out 15 N.L. batters. Three American League runs came in the first inning off Christopher Sanchez, who was starting in his home stadium in Philadelphia.
Riley Greene, Dillon Dingler and Kevin McGonigle of the Tigers all went hitless, as did William Contreras of the Brewers.
The Tigers resume their schedule Friday night against the Angels in California. Coverage will begin at 9:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
Jahmai Jones is headed to the Red Sox. Jones struggled this season with Detroit, and was recently designated for assignment. In exchange, the Tigers will get a player to be named later.
The Brewers entertain the Marlins on Friday.
Milwaukee has sold the contract of reliever Easton McGee to the Royals, after designating him for assignment last week.
Youth Soccer
Houghton Football Club is now accepting registrations for its 2026–2027 Academy and Select soccer programs. Registration is open through July 31.
Open to players ages U8 through U16, HFC provides year-round opportunities for skill development, competition, and personal growth through:
- Fall, winter, and spring training
- Northwoods League matches against clubs throughout the Upper Peninsula
- Tournament opportunities for eligible teams
- More than 200 hours of coaching focused on technical skills, tactical understanding, confidence, and teamwork
The Academy program is designed for players who are ready for more structured training and competition while continuing to develop their skills in a positive, supportive environment.
The Select (Tournament) program offers an additional level of competition through regional tournaments.
HFC welcomes players of all experience levels.
Registration is currently open for U8–U14 boys and girls and U15/U16 girls. Registration for high school boys will open this fall.

Canal Run
Online registration continues through Thursday for Saturday’s Canal Run. Events include a half-marathon, 10k, 5k and 2k runs and walks, a kids dash, and adaptive races. Sign up and get details at Canal.run. An on-site registration session will take place on Friday afternoon from 3:00 to 8:00 at Quincy Green. There will be no race day registration on Saturday.
