MLB
After a rare Friday off-day, the Tigers resume their series at Texas this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will start against Kumar Rocker. Coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Yesterday’s break was caused by a World Cup soccer match played in an adjacent stadium.
One of Detroit’s top prospects is back on the field. Catcher Josue Briceño had missed the entire season following wrist surgery. He ranked as the number-three prospect in Detroit’s system, and number-60 in all of baseball. He’s begun a rehab assignment at Lakeland, and will likely be assigned to Double-A Erie when he’s ready.
The Brewers scored four runs in the top of the 11th to put away the Diamondbacks 7-4 last evening. Each team scored three runs over the first three innings. Garrett Mitchell blasted a two-run homer for Milwaukee. Two-run singles by Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang broke the deadlock in the top of the 11th. Arizona singled home their host runner with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Grant Anderson retired the side with a pop-up and a strikeout to earn the save. Chad Patrick got the win in relief.
The Brewers visit the Diamondbacks again tonight. Beandon Woodruff will pitch against Merrill Kelly.
