MLB
The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the 11th inning, and defeated the Yankees 6-2 yesterday. Troy Melton pitched into the seventh, gave up two hits and struck out seven. He left with a 2-0 lead, thanks in part to a solo home run by Kevin McGonigle in the third inning. That evaporated when New York scored two off Drew Anderson in the bottom of the ninth. After a scoreless 10th, the Tigers loaded the bases with two out in the top of the 11th. Spencer Torkelson drew a walk to drive in the winning run, and Zack McInstry’s single wound up scoring three after a throwing error by catcher Ali Sánchez. Keider Montero closed out the game with two scoreless innings to get the win on the mound.
After sweeping the Yankees in New York, the Tigers open a series in Texas tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Nathan Eovaldi. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Will Vest is the latest Detroit pitcher to land on the injured list. He’s dealing with elbow inflammation. Beau Brieske has been brought up from Toledo.
The Brewers downed the Reds 4-2 last evening. Garrett Mitchell’s triple in the seventh inning drove home the winning run, and he then scored on a wild pitch. He had four hits. Shane Drohan gave up two runs on six hits. Aaron Ashby replaced him in the sixth inning, and earned his 12th win of the season in relief.
The Brewers welcome the Reds again this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Chase Burns.
NBA
The Pistons have reportedly inked a contract with power forward John Collins. He played for the Clippers last season, after terms with the Hawks and Jazz. It’s a three-year, $51 million deal.
Collins will fill the gap left when Tobias Harris signed a two-year, $31 million deal with the Spurs.
The Bucks have signed forward Bogoljub Marković to a multi-year contract. Marković was the 47th overall pick in the NBA Draft last year. He played in Serbia this past season, and was named league MVP after averaging 19 points and nine rebounds per game.
NHL
The Red Wings and forward Viktor Arvidsson have reportedly agreed on a two-year, $5 million deal. Arvidsson collected 25 goals and 29 assists for the Bruins last season. The Wings have also picked up forward Keegan Kolesar from the Golden Knights in exchange for two future draft picks.
Detroit added some defensive depth by signing Jacob Bryson to a one-year deal. He split time between the Sabres and Jets last season. And, they brought in free agent goaltender Daniil Tarasov to back up John Gibson. He played for the Panthers last season, and will replace the departing Cam Talbot.
