The Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR) last week began collecting responses to the 2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update and Community Survey for Houghton County.
The survey is part of a multi-county effort to ensure communities across the western Upper Peninsula remain eligible for federal hazard funding through FEMA. Hazard mitigation plans help identify risks associated with natural hazards such as flooding, extreme weather, shoreline erosion, wildfire and infrastructure failure.
Since 2004, WUPPDR has assisted counties in the western region with hazard mitigation planning. Those interested in participating in the 2026 Houghton County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update and Community Survey can find more details online. Find the survey here.
