Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw Schools is asking voters to approve a $21.85 million bond renewal on Aug. 4 to fund targeted improvements to aging building systems across the district.
Heating, ventilation, plumbing, windows, masonry, lockers, public address systems and instructional technology are among the most pressing needs identified by district leaders. The bond is structured as a zero mill net increase over the prior year’s levy, meaning it would not raise property taxes above the 2025 rate.
Proposed projects vary by building, but primarily address heating system improvements across the district. CLK Elementary needs to update an aging heating systems and would improve restrooms. Calumet High School projects include heating and ventilation replacement, locker room renovations, a new public address system and parking lot resurfacing. Washington Middle School would also address the heating system, restrooms and exterior masonry at the school. Horizons Alternative High School would receive updated room heating units. Across CLK Schools, the bond could fund instructional technology upgrades such as computers, classroom displays and networking equipment.
District leaders will host informational meetings at Horizons Alternative High School on June 23 at 5:30 p.m. and at CLK Schools in the commons area on June 30 at 5:30 p.m.
