The Friends of the Porkies will have two artist ambassadors roaming the state park this summer.
Recently, the Friends of the Porcupine Mountains shared the group’s newest initiative, Park Artist Ambassadors, will start with two artists.
“The Artist Ambassador invites visitors to see this ancient landscape through a creative lens,” said Joan Hawley, president of the Friends of the Porkies. “By fostering these connections, we aren’t just celebrating art; we’re inspiring a deeper sense of stewardship for the natural world.”
Caroline Meehean and Jake Ring will serve as the inaugural artist ambassadors for the Friends of the Porkies. Meehean is an artist who comes from central Wisconsin and is an active member of the Porcupine Mountains Artist in Residence Steering Committee. Ring has published photography books such as “The Comprehensive Porcupine Mountains Waterfall Book” and is a practicing photographer and videographer from Iron Mountain.
The new initiative builds upon the Friends of the Porkies’ commitment to cultural programming in the park, which includes the prestigious artist-in-residence program, the Porcupine Mountains Music Festival and other events throughout the year.
