An Ontonagon County man will serve a minimum of 22 years in prison for computer crimes against children.
In May 2025, the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Brent Edward Mayer, 36, of Bruce Crossing, on seven counts related to the possession of child sexual abuse material, using a computer to commit a crime and aggravated child sexual abuse activity.
Law enforcement seized several devices from Mayer’s Bruce Crossing home that included digital evidence.
On April 9, 2026, Mayer was convicted on all 16 felony charges by a jury. In May, Mayer was sentenced in the 32nd Circuit Court of Ontonagon County to 22 to 37.5 years in prison. He was not credited with time already served.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat crimes against children in digital spaces. The investigation involved multiple agencies working together to build a comprehensive case against Mayer.
