Laurel “Laurie” Hamlin, age 62, a resident of Allouez, Michigan passed away on Friday May 1, 2026 at her home. She was born on July 4, 1963 to Hugh Ray (Skip) Lewis and Cecile Paulette (Chi-Chi) Lewis in Dearborn, Michigan.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Kurt Alan Hamlin, her parents, her son Kevin Douglas Hamlin, stepfather Lloyd Haack and brother-in-law Matt Jack.
Laurie is survived by her sons Kraig Hamlin and Jordy Hamlin (Jordan Kronshage), her
grandchildren Olivia, Luke, Kinsley, and Brooklyn, her siblings Ann Richards Oscoda and Dan (Debbie) Lewis of Mikado, as well as two nieces and nine nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Laurie graduated from Waterford Township High School in Waterford, Michigan in 1981. She went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1985 from Michigan Technological University, Houghton Michigan. Laurie worked for CLK schools for 26 years and retired in March of 2014 as the district accountant. Following her retirement, she worked in a part-time capacity at the Drift Inn, Calumet Electronics and Aspirus. She was also an integral part of the family business, Gasoline Alley, since 1994.
She married the love of her life, Kurt Hamlin, on November 1, 1986. They moved from Oscoda Michigan to the Keweenaw in March of 1987.
She found joy in life’s simple beauties, especially in the nature that surrounded her each day. She loved watching the birds and wildlife she affectionately called “her babies” as they visited daily. A true sun worshiper at heart, she soaked in every ray of sunshine and found balance in the gentleness of the outdoors. She was passionate about her family, and enjoyed gardening, rock hounding, baking, mushroom hunting, collecting antiques, and fantasy football. One spring, while stopping to gather pussy willows she was caught up in the moment and forgot to put her truck in park- let’s just say it was a good thing Kurt was a body man.
She loved her children and grandchildren deeply, almost fiercely, and was immensely proud of all they accomplished. Some of her greatest joys were watching and listening to her grandson Luke play hockey, cheering on Kinsley in gymnastics, Brooklyn on the basketball court, and celebrating Olivia’s graduation from Ferris State University. These were just a few of the many moments that brought her happiness and pride.
She touched the lives of many in a profound way. She and Kurt especially loved traveling to Las Gatas, Zihuatanejo Mexico. That was their slice of paradise and home to her second family and most importantly- the place where her soul found peace.
Per Laurie’s wishes, no services will be held.
