Born August 30, 1933 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Oscar and Elsie Spelbrink. She had a full life, which included attending the University of Minnesota, receiving her BS in Nursing; completing her master’s in public health nursing at Mankato State University; marrying the love of her life, Eugene Gray, and devoting her time to raising her children with every opportunity to grow and shine. Clara was a member of many local groups and clubs. She was especially proud of being a lifelong and founding member of the Northeast Metro branch of the American Association of University Women.
Of the many friends Clara had, Eleanor Dahlstrom was one of her closest since grade school. In the early 70’s, Eleanor and Linden Dahlstrom bought a lot in Agate Harbor, MI, sharing the beauty of the land with Clara and her family. Clara and Gene bought land two lots down and the two families worked together to build their cabins. Much of the summers were spent at the cabin, where Clara liked to pick Thimbleberries and make jam, attend church at Shephard of the Sea, take the family to local beaches, mines, and art fairs and sit on the dock, watching the sunset.
All of her family and friends will miss her smiling face.
Clara will be laid to rest during a private family burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Eagle Harbor, Michigan on May 22, 2026.
