The Tigers shut down the Rangers 5-1 Saturday. Detroit scored early, with a three-run Dillon Dingler homer in the first inning, and RBI singles by Kevin McGonigle and Gleyber Torres in the second. Keider Montero pitched into the seventh, and gave up a run on five hits.
The Tigers host the Rangers again tonight. Tyler Holton is expected to open a bullpen game for Detroit. Jack Leiter will counter for Texas. Coverage will begin at 6:55 on 99.3 The Lift.
Torres left last night’s game in the third inning, with what team officials said later was “tightness in his left side.” He’ll be evaluated today. The Tigers’ pitching injury woes also worsened yesterday. Will Vest was added to the injured list with inflammation in his throwing arm. Kenley Jansen is sidelined with groin tightness, but has not been placed on the IL, and is considered day-to-day.
To fill in for Vest, Detroit brought Ricky Vanasco up from Toledo. To open a place on the 40-man roster for Vanasco, pitcher Yoniel Curet was designated for assignment.
The Brewers also scored three runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Nationals Saturday. Kyle Harrison scattered seven hits over six innings, but gave up just one run.
The Brewers visit the Nationals again this afternoon. Milwaukee has not named a starter. Zack Littell will open for Washington.
