In high school volleyball last night…
- Houghton fell to Kingsford 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 20-25).
- Calumet swept Gwinn 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17). Bailey Strom had 9 kills, Millie Loukus had 20 assists, Jess Anderson had 14 digs and Grace Keranen had 6 kills and 7 aces.
- Jeffers downed Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 0-35, 25-19). Mia Nordstrom had 14 kills for the Jets, Kylee Andrews added 8. Taylee Rajala and Lainey Asiala each had 4 blocks, and Kloe Verran had 16 digs. Cleo Milkey led the Lakes with 14 kills and 3 aces. Emily Burnham had 8 kills and 6 blocks. Ashlyn Steves had 32 digs.
- West Iron County lost to Negaunee 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23)

In cross country yesterday…
The Houghton girls and the Jeffers boys claimed team victories yesterday at the WestPAC Finals at the Swedetown Trails.
- Calumet placed second on the girls’ side. Gremlins Holly Cooke, Sela Niska and Jovie Williams finished first, second and third individually. Elli Harju, Bethany McParlan and Maija Keranen of Calumet placed fifth, sixth and seventh.
- Houghton finished second on the boys’ side. Negaunee’s Henry Plummer took the individual title, followed by Cameron Anderson and Landon Larson of the Jets. Houghton’s Benjamin Hemmer finished fourth.

At the Copper Mountain Conference Finals at Ironwood yesterday…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City claimed the boys’ team title. Chassell placed fourth. Landon Halkola of the Blue Bolts took the individual title, with teammates Niko Reed third and Caleb Kentala fourth.
- L’Anse took the girls’ crown, with Ewen-Trout Creek second, Chassell third, and Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fifth. Ewen’s Bree Besonen won the individual title. Princess Pierrre, Lily Froese and Kwinn Voskuhl of the Purple Hornets placed second, third and fourth. Chassell’s Sylvia Aho finished fifth.

- Calumet’s game against Hancock has been called off because the Bulldogs don’t have enough healthy players to field a team. The Copper Kings will win by forfeit.

- Lake Linden-Hubbell welcomes Gogebic. The Lakes’ homecoming game will kick off at 1:30 at Warner Field. Line-up for tonight’s homecoming parade will begin at 6:00 at the corner of 10th Street and Calumet Street. The parade will step off at 6:30.
The Houghton boys soccer team opens the district playoffs at home against Boyne City today. Coverage will begin at 4:40 on KBear 102.3.

College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team fell 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 18-25, 25-22, 11-15) to Northern Michigan last night. Rachel Zurek and Maddie Torola each had 18 kills for the Huskies. Tess Hayes recorded 27 assists and Maddie Kreider added 23. Julia Fledderjohn led with 28 digs. Kylie McIntosh powered the Wildcats with 19 kills. Allie Barlow tallied 57 assists, and Liesl Haugen recorded 38 digs.
The Wildcats play at Purdue Northwest tomorrow. The Huskies visit Purdue Northwest Sunday afternoon.
College Soccer
The NMU men’s soccer team hosts Saginaw Valley State today at noon, and Davenport Sunday at noon.
The Tech women’s soccer team plays at Northern Sunday at 3:00.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team has the weekend off.
The NMU hockey team visits 16th-ranked Ohio State tonight and tomorrow.
College Football
The MTU football team welcomes Davenport tomorrow at 2:00.
Northern’s football squad entertains Grand Valley State tomorrow.
MLB
The Tigers and Mariners will decide their American League Divisional Series tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against George Kirby. Coverage will begin at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The winner will face the Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series
The Cubs tied their National League Divisional Series against the Brewers with a 6-0 victory last night. Freddy Peralta gave up a three-run homer in the first inning, and took the loss. Matthew Boyd and four Chicago relievers held Milwaukee to just three hits. That series will be decided in Milwaukee tomorrow.
The winner will face the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. L-A shaded the Phillies 2-1 in 11 innings yesterday, to win their Divisional Series 3-1.
NHL
The Red Wings opened their season with an ugly 5-1 loss to the Canadiens last night. In his Detroit debut, goalie John Gibson gave up all five Montreal goals on just 13 shots, and was replaced by Cam Talbot late in the second period. Dylan Larkin netted Detroit’s only goal.
The Wings entertain the Maple Leafs tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
Cade Cunningham scored 26 points, as the Pistons fell 117-111 to the Bucks in an NBA preseason game last evening. Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t play for Milwaukee. A.J. Green led the Bucks with 22 points.
The Pistons play their next preseason game Tuesday at Cleveland. Listen for selected Pistons broadcasts again this season on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Bulls Sunday evening.
NFL
In last night’s NFL contest, the Giants upended the Eagles 34-17.
The Packers host the Bengals in a 4:25 game Sunday. Green Bay may be without kicker Brandon McManus, who suffered a right quad injury during practice Wednesday. Green Bay brought in veteran kickers Lucas Havrisik and Greg Joseph for quick tryouts yesterday.
The Lions visit the Chiefs in the Sunday night contest on 99.3 The Lift.
