High School
The Jeffers High School hockey team is headed to the state semifinals. The Jets blanked Sault Ste. Marie 3-0 in their quarterfinal game in Marquette Saturday. They have been seeded third in the final four, and will face second-seed Cranbrook Kingswood Friday at 1:30 in Plymouth. Top-seed Orchard Lake St. Mary’s will take on fourth-seed Alpena in the other semifinal Friday at 11.
The Jeffers Athletic Department is looking for help to pay for the trip downstate. You donate at their GoFundMe page, or drop a donation off at the school.
The Division Four MHSAA bowling finals were staged Saturday in Muskegon. Logan Cadeau from the L’Anse High School team finished 22nd out of the 56 competitors.

MLB
The Tigers bombed the Pirates 10-4 yesterday. Jackson Jobe gave up a run over three innings. Jahmai Jones, Trey Sweeney and Thayron Liranzo homered.
The Tigers face the Blue Jays today. Tarik Skubal will start against José Berríos. Coverage will begin at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers and Guardians slugged their way to a 12-12 tie yesterday. Sal Frelick and Raynel Delgado homered. Thomas Pannone started for the Crew, got just one out, and was charged with four runs on six hits.
Milwaukee will face the Reds today. Aaron Ashby will pitch against Nick Lodolo.
Dogsled Racing
Michael Bestgen took the title at the Copperdog 150 yesterday. The only musher to compete in all 15 of the 150s turned in the best time in Friday’s opening run, and was good enough Saturday and Sunday to claim his first crown. First-timer Haleigh Bonk from the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech and Tom Bauer’s Otter River kennel finished second. Three-time champion J.R. Anderson placed third.
Joann Fortier passed Lynne Witte to take the CopperDog 80 title yesterday. Witte turned in the best time in Friday’s opening run, but Fortier’s strong showing yesterday carried the day. Joann joined husband Larry in the winner’s circle – he claimed the CopperDog 30 title Friday night.
At the CopperDog 15 sprint in Copper Harbor Saturday, Jake Golton took the title, covering the course at 14.8 miles per hour. Geri Minard finished 82 seconds off the pace.
