The Knicks turned back the Cavaliers 121-108 last night. New York leads the Eastern Conference final 3-0.

The Thunder visit the Spurs tonight. Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference final 2-1.

NHL

The Hurricanes shaded the Canadiens 3-2 in overtime last evening. The Eastern Conference final is tied 1-1.

The Golden Knights host the Avalanche tonight. Vegas leads the Western Conference final 2-0.

MLB

The Tigers and Orioles were rained out yesterday. That game will be made up today as part of a day-night doubleheader. Framber Valdez will face Brandon Young in the early game, with coverage at 12:10 on 99.3 The Lift. The Tigers have not named a starter for the late game. Coverage will start at 5:40.

The Brewers’ four-game win streak ended with an 11-3 loss to the Dodgers last night. L-A pulled away with seven runs off D.L. Hall and Jake Woodford over the final two innings. Brewers pitchers combined to issue 11 walks.

The Crew host the Dodgers again this afternoon. Brandon Sproat will pitch against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

In softball yesterday…

Hancock took two from Westwood, 2-1 and 12-1. In the opener, Kaelyn Rouleau singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Lucy Biekkola struck out nine to get the win in the circle. The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap, with help from eight Patriots’ wild pitches and two passed balls. Biekkola again got the win, striking out five before the game ended by mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Hancock has been named the WestPAC Boys Golf Team of the Year. Brendan Jukuri from Houghton was named Player of the Year, with a nine-hole average of 36.8. Paul Sintkowski of the Bulldogs was honored as Coach of the Year.

Calumet High School has named its top senior athletes for the class of 2026. Ben Anderson won the George Gipp Award as the top boys athlete. Kiirsi Johnson claimed the Holly Jean McCullah Award as the top girls athlete.

Jack Flaherty struggled again, as the Tigers lost to the Orioles 7-4 last night. Flaherty was charged with six runs before leaving in the fourth inning. Kevin McGonigle homered.

The Tigers have dropped seven straight, and 15 of their last 17. They visit the Orioles today. Framber Valdez will start against Brandon Young. Coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Two more Tigers pitchers are ailing. Brant Hurter is dealing with a sore back – he’s considered day to day. Burch Smith is being treated for inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He’s been placed on the injured list. Brenan Hanifee has been called back up from Toledo.

The Brewers dispatched the Dodgers 5-1 last evening. William Contreras hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Logan Henderson struck out seven over five shutout innings to get the win.

The Brewers host the Dodgers tonight. Robert Gasser will pitch against Roki Sasaki.

Biking

Ride the Keweenaw continues today, with group rides scheduled for the Tech Trails this morning, and Churning Rapids this afternoon. Tomorrow, the Lake Superior Gravity Series begins with the first Enduro of the year in Copper Harbor. Most events are free, but the Enduros do have entry fees. For the full schedule, click here.

Arlene Gruber, age 86, a resident of Hancock, Michigan passed away on Friday May 22, 2026 at Intersect Healthcare of Hancock. Private burial services will take place for Arlene. A full obituary will be published at a later date.

On November 30, 2025, Bryan Keith Richards, a 63-year-old resident of Marquette, Iowa, passed away. Born in Calumet, MI on April 27, 1963, Bryan was the son of Ronald Richards and Marilyn Richards Hosking. A proud graduate of Calumet High School (class of 1980), Bryan was also a distinguished Army veteran and a Culinary Arts graduate of MATC Milwaukee.

Bryan was an incredibly talented individual, blessed with the ability to repair or construct anything. He excelled in hockey and could skillfully prepare the most delicious dishes. His passion for fishing was unmatched, an innate love instilled in him from birth, when his father gifted him his first fishing pole at birth.

Throughout his later years, Bryan battled a private and painful struggle with alcohol addiction. Though this disease changed the course of his life and brought moments of profound darkness, we will choose to remember the gifted, caring, and kind-hearted man we knew and loved. While the pain of the loss is heavy, we can take comfort in knowing that Bryan is finally at peace.He is survived by his daughter, Anna Richards; his son, Andrew Richards; his mother, Marilyn Richards Hosking; his brother, Clyde Richards; his nephew, Al Richards; his niece, Sabrina Imoehl; Patricia Richards Rudolph, the mother of his children; and four grandchildren, Thor, Preston, Landon, and Auston, along with other living relatives and friends in the area. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, as well as Howard Hosking.

A memorial service honoring Bryan’s memory will take place at 10 a.m on June 6th at Erickson-Crowley-Peterson in Calumet, MI, for those who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Calumet United Methodist Church.
