NBA

The Knicks overcame a late 10-point deficit to defeat the Spurs 94-90 Saturday night, and claim their first NBA championship since 1973. New York won the title series 4-1. Jalen Brunson scored 45 of the Knicks’ points, and was the unanimous choice as the series’ Most Valuable Player.

NHL

The Hurricanes visit the Golden Knights tonight. Carolina leads the Stanley Cup final 3-2.

MLB

The Tigers suffered a 3-1 loss to the Guardians Saturday. Tarik Skubal returned from the injured list, pitched into the fifth inning, and allowed all three Cleveland runs. Dillon Dingler singled home Gleyber Torres with Detroit’s only run in the first inning.

The Tigers visit the Guardians again this afternoon. Casey Mize will return from the injured list to face Gavin Williams. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers made room for Skubal in the rotation by placing Jack Flaherty on the injured list. He suffered a lower leg strain in Friday’s game. Detroit also sent pitcher Ty Madden down to Toledo, and brought up infielder Hao Yu Lee.

The Brewers’ late comeback fell short in a 9-8 loss to the Phillies Saturday. Philadelphia broke open a tight game with five runs off Shane Drohan and Chad Patrick in the sixth inning. Milwaukee responded with two in the seventh, and three in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Jackson Chourio hit two home runs, and Garrett Mitchell hit one.

The Brewers host the Phillies again today. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Cristopher Sánchez.

The Jeffers High School baseball team ended its tournament run with a 4-0 loss to Marcellus in a Division Four state semifinal game in East Lansing yesterday. Cale Hackenberg of the Wildcats allowed just four Jets hits over seven innings, and struck out 15. Cam Anderson and Brogan Turner combined to hold Marcellus to just seven hits.

NBA

The NBA championship series continues tonight when the Spurs host the Knicks. New York leads the series 3-1.

NHL

MLB

The Tigers fell 3-2 to the Guardians last night. Jack Flaherty gave up two runs over three innings, before exiting with pain in his lower left leg. He’ll be evaluated today. Detroit batters were held to just two hits, one a solo home run by new Tigers outfielder James Outman.

The Tigers visit the Guardians again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will return from the injured list to face Joey Cantillo. Coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

To make room for Outman on the 25-man roster, the Tigers designated infielder Zack Short for assignment. Detroit also brought reliever Kenley Jansen off the injured list and called up newly-acquired reliever Jacob Waguespack. Beau Brieske and Brenan Hanifee were both optioned to Toledo.

Jacob Misiorowski turned in the best pitching performance in the majors so far this season, as the Brewers blanked the Phillies 6-0 last evening. Misiorowski struck out 15 batters and allowed just one hit in a 95-pitch complete-game gem in which his fastball topped out at 104 miles per hour. Jake Bauers hit a three-run homer.

The Brewers host the Phillies again tonight. Shane Drohan will pitch against Aaron Nola. 

Milwaukee has added pitcher Coleman Crow to the injured list with a flexor strain. Craig Yoho was called up to fill in.

Running

Zebedee Swager of Houghton won yesterday’s Thatcher Markham Memorial 5k, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Rick Koubek of Alto, Michigan. Bridget Burns was the top women’s finisher. See full results here.
