City Councilor Whitney Warstler will step down from her positions with the city due to other obligations.
Warstler informed the city she can no longer commit the time required to serve on the city council, planning commission and area district library board.
City Manager Mary Babcock said the city will need legal guidance on how to handle the council vacancy. “We will be publishing an ad for candidates for the Planning Commission and the library. And then we’re going to have to have some discussion about the city council position that’s open. I don’t currently have our legal opinion on that, how that should be handled due to the fact that it’s a very odd situation where you’re almost appointing somebody for one meeting,” Babcock said.
The Hancock city charter requires the council to fill a vacant seat within 30 days of resignation. Warstler’s final day takes effect Nov. 30. December typically sees one city meeting due to holiday schedules and fewer agenda items.
The city will seek to fill positions on the planning commission and area district library board of directors.
