In Loving Memory of Robert “Bob” Alvin Coen
March 26, 1942 – September 18, 2026
Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
With heavy hearts and a lifetime of cherished memories, we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Alvin Coen, who passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 84. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, beloved brother, and dear friend to so many, Bob leaves behind a legacy of love, service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Bob was born on March 26, 1942, in Milltown, Wisconsin, to Alvin and Ella Coen. Throughout his life, he carried with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and helping others. These qualities would become the foundation of a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
Bob proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army and also served in the National Guard. His commitment to service continued throughout his life. He dedicated more than 40 years of hard work to the City of Baraga, served as a volunteer firefighter, and remained actively involved in community projects. Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand, give his time, or do whatever was needed to make his community a better place. His years of service reflected the kind of man he was — dependable, generous, hardworking, and devoted to others.
While Bob took great pride in his work and service, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his family. He was a family oriented man whose love ran deep and whose presence brought comfort, strength, and happiness to those fortunate enough to know him. Whether sharing stories, spending time together, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, Bob understood that life’s greatest treasures were not things, but the people who filled his heart.
Bob also found great happiness in the outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he treasured the peace, beauty, and simple pleasures of nature. These passions brought him countless memories and opportunities to enjoy the things he loved.
Having recently made Freeport, Florida, his new home, Bob began another chapter of life, carrying with him the memories, friendships, and family bonds built over his many wonderful years.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Joanne, whose love and companionship were such an important part of his life. He is also survived by his loving children, Mary (Tim) Waddell, James Coen, Thomas Coen, Dale (Colleen) Selden, Mike (Jen) Selden, Debbie Anderson, and Deana (Jeff) Knutson; his loving sisters, Iva Johnson and Alice Dau; and an abundance of cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
His family was his world, and the love he had for each of them will remain a precious gift that time can never take away.
Bob will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his years of service to his community, his love of the outdoors, and, above all, his devotion to the people he held dear. His was a life measured not simply in years, but in the countless lives he touched, the memories he created, the love he gave, and the lasting difference he made.
Though our hearts are heavy with the sadness of saying goodbye, we find comfort in knowing that Bob’s love lives on in every cherished memory, every family gathering, every story shared, and every quiet moment spent remembering him. His legacy will continue through the generations of family who were blessed to call him their own.
There will be no services at this time. A memorial cemetery service is planned for the spring of 2027, when family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Bob’s life. Additional details will be shared at a later date.
