High School
On Friday night’s high school football schedule…
- Houghton fell to Westwood 38-26.
- Calumet lost 22-8 at Menominee. A 21-yard Dylan Beal-to-Brody Daigneau touchdown pass and a two-point conversion gave the Maroons an 8-0 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Copper Kings recovered a fumble at midfield caused by a bad Menominee snap. A five-yard Tyler Halonen run capped a nine-play scoring drive, and Halonen added the two-point conversion to tie the contest. The Maroons responded quickly. What would have been a 66-yard touchdown run on the first play after the kickoff was called back because of a penalty, but Jackson Myszak’s 31-yard scamper three plays later put the Maroons back on top. After a Calumet punt, Beal hit Daigneau with a 35-yard strike, and the subsequent two-point conversion completed the scoring. The Copper Kings mounted a late threat after an Andrew Juntilla interception gave them the ball at the Menominee seven-yard line, but the Maroons defense stopped them at the two. It was the first loss of the season for the Copper Kings. Hear the game replay here.
- Hancock spoiled Gwinn’s homecoming 42-0.
- L’Anse fell to Iron Mountain 42-22.
- Ontonagon shaded Ironwood 14-8.
- The Copper Island Academy lost at North Dickinson 48-12.
- West Iron County dropped a 32-6 decision to Manistique.
- Forest Park lost to Ishpeming 38-22 – the first loss of the season for the Trojans.

College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team fell to top-ranked Ferris State 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-18) yesterday. Paige Wagner led the Huskies with eight kills. Madelynn Kreider had 24 assists, and Keeley Nellis logged 14 digs. The Huskies host Davenport today at 4:00.
The NMU volleyball team defeated Davenport 3-1 yesterday, and hosts Saginaw Valley State today at 4:00.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team fell 2-0 at Parkside yesterday, and plays at Roosevelt tomorrow at 1:00.
The NMU women’s soccer squad lost 2-1 at Roosevelt yesterday afternoon, and visits Parkside tomorrow.
The NMU men’s team upended fifth-ranked Saginaw Valley State 2-1. Luca Rosen’s goal in the final two minutes was the game-winner. The Wildcats play at Davenport tomorrow.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team entertains Upper Iowa in the annual homecoming game this afternoon at 2:00.
The Northern football squad hosts Davenport for homecoming today at 1:00.
MLB
The Tigers’ bats reawakened in an 11-8 comeback victory over the White Sox last night. Chicago chased starter Andrew Sears while scoring six runs in the first inning, and added two more in the third. Four Detroit relievers gave up just one more hit over the rest of the contest. Detroit battled back, and put the game away with five runs in the eighth inning, powered by homers from Hao-Yu Lee and Riley Greene. Lee had four hits and drove in three runs. Kevin McGonigle had two hits and drove in four runs.
The Tigers visit the White Sox again this afternoon. Jackson Jobe will start against Sean Burke. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Sal Frelick singled home the winning run in the top of the 10th, as Brewers shaded the Orioles 6-5. The extra frame came after both teams scored twice in the ninth. Jackson Chourio homered for Milwaukee.
The Brewers visit the Orioles again this afternoon. Robert Gasser will start against Trevor Rogers.
Milwaukee sent right-hander Garrett Stallings down to Nashville yesterday, and brought up lefty Colton Gordon.

The Packers visit the Jets for a 1:00 game tomorrow.
NBA
There are reports that the Pistons and Ausar Thompson have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $155 million. Contract talks with Jalen Duren remain stalled.
