The State of Michigan has announced a deadline before which the application for home heating tax credits must be submitted.
As Michigan is a colder state, many of its residents spend a considerable amount of money on keeping their homes warm during the winter months; the aim of this tax credit is to allow Michiganders to be able to spend more money on essentials like food, medicine and rent. Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced last week that the filing deadline to obtain a tax credit for the upcoming tax season is September 30.
In the previous tax season, the average taxpayer received $171 in assistance and certain groups such as seniors, disabled individuals, and veterans may qualify for increased benefits. The assistance is not able to be applied retroactively, so the State urges those who are interested to not miss the Sep. 30 deadline. To qualify for the program, the taxpayer must be a homeowner or a renter and meet certain income requirements; the easiest way to apply for the program is through the State of Michigan’s free tax preparation services.
