College Football
The Michigan Tech football team took advantage of five turnovers, and blew out Midwestern State 48-27 Saturday. The Huskies led 31-7 at halftime. Elliott Larner passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for two more scores. Jake Rueff rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
The Northern Michigan squad fell to Tiffin 35-7 Saturday evening. Noah Dobert ran for 113 yards and the Wildcats’ only touchdown.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team wrapped up play at the Mountain Lion Classic at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 26-24) sweep of Midwestern State. Rachel Zurek had 17 kills to lead the Huskies.
At the Cal State East Bay tournament in Hayward, California, Northern Michigan concluded play with a 3-0 (25-27, 23-25, 15-25) loss to San Francisco State.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team lost 3-0 at Cedarville Saturday.
The Northern Michigan women’s team defeated Northwood 3-1. Isabella Lorenz scored twice.
The Northern Michigan men’s team will play at Saginaw Valley State today.
MLB
Riley Greene blasted two home runs, as the Tigers blanked the Guardians 6-0 Saturday. Greene added a single and a double, and drove in four runs. Framber Valdez turned in seven strong innings, allowing just three singles.
The Tigers play at Cleveland again today. Jackson Jobe will start against Gavin Williams. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit starter Jack Flaherty is expected to begin a rehab stint at Toledo today. He’s been out since late July with an arm injury.
The Brewers dropped a 5-3 decision to the Reds on Saturday. William Contreras homered. Dustin May pitched into the fourth inning, and gave up two runs before his day ended as the game was delayed for more than two hours by rain.
The Brewers visit the Reds again today. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Brady Singer.
