In high school volleyball last night…
- West Iron County opened its season with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 12-25, 25-21) win at Escanaba.
MLB
Kenley Jansen gave up two solo home runs in the bottom of the ninth, and the Tigers lost to the Pirates 4-3 yesterday. Rafael Flores, Junior hit his second homer of the night to tie the game. Brandon Lowe’s two-out fly ball off the foul pole in right field was the game-winner. The loss spoiled a good start by Jackson Jobe, who pitched into the sixth and gave up a run on four hits. Kevin McGonigle drove in two runs for Detroit.
The Tigers have today off, and visit the Royals tomorrow. Troy Melton will start. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers fell to the Mariners 7-5 last night. All of Seattle’s runs came in the opening two innings off Dustin May. Joey Ortiz homered and drove in four runs for Milwaukee.
The Brewers entertain the Mariners again this afternoon. Robert Gasser will pitch against George Kirby.
Cooper Pratt rejoined the Crew last night after a stint on the injured list. Brandon Lockridge has been sent down to Nashville to make room on the roster. Jihwan Bae cleared waivers, and has also been assigned to the Sounds.
Twilight League
The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League championship series continues tonight, as Garnet Garage faces Northern Driveline at the Stanton field. Garnet leads the best-of-three series 1-0.
If a third game is needed, it will be played Tuesday.

The Copper Country Horseshoe League tournament last night…
- Dreamland defeated Calumet Electronics 7-2.
- Erkkila Forest Products shaded Sayen’s Auto 5-4.
- Luigi’s Bar downed Laurium One 6-3.
- Harter’s Party Store edged Eva’s Hideaway 5-4.
