MLB
The Tigers broke their three-game losing streak with an 8-5 victory over the Pirates last night. Kevin McGonigle hit a long two-run homer as Detroit built a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Framber Valdez gave up just one run through the first five innings, but couldn’t make it through the sixth, and was charged with all five Pittsburgh runs. Zach McInstry and Hao-Yu Lee each had three hits.
The Tigers visit the Pirates again tonight. Keider Montero will start against Braxton Ashcraft. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Twins and Guardians both lost, so Detroit is alone in second place in the American League Central Division, five games behind the White Sox.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Mariners tonight. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Bryce Miller.
Brice Turang could be back on the field tonight. He’s been resting an achy knee. Cooper Pratt is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Milwaukee’s High-A Wisconsin farm team today. He’s recovering from a hamstring strain.
Twilight League
The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League championship series opens tonight, as Garnet Garage faces Northern Driveline at 6:30 at the Houghton field. Game two of the best-of-three set will be played Thursday. If a third game is needed, it will be played a week from tonight.
