A common challenge many municipalities face is maintaining how advertisements and signs appear around town. That challenge often becomes more difficult to manage during political election years.
On Wednesday, the Houghton City Council approved an updated signs ordinance to better define what constitutes a temporary sign and the amount of time these signs can remain in the city.
The amendment to the zoning ordinance allows groups, events or individuals to place a sign in a public right of way for up to 100 days. Signs must be removed within 10 days following any event or date the sign references.
