Across the United States, only 27 percent of infants are exclusively breastfed through the first six months, about half the target goal set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of the Healthy People 2030 program.
Health experts say access to breastfeeding education and lactation support before and after childbirth can help families overcome common challenges.
“Aspirus provides breastfeeding support to moms during pregnancy and postpartum,” said Bailey Trzebiatowski, RN, a labor and delivery nurse and lactation counselor with Aspirus Health. “Every consult is customized. We cover latch, pre- and post-weighted feeds, and address any pumping or breastfeeding concerns. We support families both in the hospital and in our clinics.”
This weekend, the Copper Country Breastfeeding Collaborative hosts an open house at the Hancock Community Hub. The event includes information on available programs, meetings with lactation specialists and child development experts, snacks and community connections.
The open house Saturday begins at 10 a.m. For more details, visit online resources.
