Breakwater Federal Credit Union announced Tuesday plans for a multiphase renovation of its Sharon Avenue headquarters, originally built in 1994.
The project will modernize employee offices, upgrade technology systems and expand space to better serve members. The credit union will maintain regular operating hours throughout construction, though members should expect temporary barriers and construction crews on site as work progresses.
The renovation aims to enhance the member experience while positioning the financial institution for future growth. The improvements reflect Breakwater’s commitment to providing quality service in the Copper Country community.

Breakwater Federal Credit Union is excited to announce the start of a renovation project designed to enhance the member experience and
create additional space to better serve the needs of its growing membership.
Construction begins today and is expected to continue into the spring as work progresses through multiple phases.
Originally constructed in 1994, Breakwater’s headquarters has served members and the community for more than three decades. These renovations represent the next chapter in the credit union’s ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming, modern environment for members and employees alike.
The project will include refreshed office spaces for employees, updated technology, and additional space that will help Breakwater better serve its members. These improvements reflect Breakwater’s continued growth and investment in providing exceptional service while meeting the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
Our hours will remain exactly the same throughout construction, and we will remain open to serve our members. While some areas of the building may be temporarily blocked off as work progresses, members can continue to access all of Breakwater’s services during the renovation.
Members will notice construction crews and temporary barriers around portions of the facility, but rest assured that your funds, personal information, and account security remain entirely unaffected. Members who prefer to avoid construction can conveniently manage their accounts 24/7 through Breakwater’s online and mobile banking services at www.breakwaterfcu.org.
In addition to in-branch service, Breakwater offers nine ATMs throughout the Copper Country, including three deposit-taking ATMs, providing members with convenient access to their accounts throughout the renovation.
“This project is designed to balance our future growth with our daily commitment to our members and staff,” said Paula Megowen, President and CEO of Breakwater Federal Credit Union. “We are excited to upgrade our facility in a way that supports expansion while elevating the overall member experience.”
