Yvonne M. Fisher from Hancock passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2026. She was born in Laurium to Wilho (Bill) and Mae (Aho) Wuolukka on October 21, 1939.
She attended CLK schools and graduated with the class of 1958 from Calumet High School. She attended MTU for two years following graduation.
During the summer of 1960 she worked at Parkside Restaurant and Bakery in Calumet. During that time, she was asked by Victor E. Lepisto, M.D. if she would be interested in being a receptionist in his Laurium office. Giving it some thought she said she would be interested.
During her time there she married her middle school sweetheart Clarence Fisher on June 15, 1963. She continued working for Dr. Lepisto until the birth of their first daughter Renee, who was born in 1966.
She then became a stay-at-home mother. Her second daughter Michele was born in 1971. Shortly after that she was asked to become the Director of Michigan Tech Nursery School, which she did for several years. She was also employed by the Hancock Public Schools as a library aide in the E.L. Wright School for a few years.
She did a lot of volunteer work in the community and enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, cross stitch, etc. She served on several boards including, Community Action Agency, the Salvation Army, Portage Lake Figure Skating Club, RSVP, and Portage View Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Calumet Hats for Hope, the Red Hat Society, and Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School when it was the Franklin Street Apostolic Church. She was a vendor at the Eagle Harbor Arts and Crafts show for 45 years.
Yvonne was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, her mother and father, and her sister Ruth Hannula.
She is survived by her husband Clarence, daughter Renee Fisher of Kingman, AZ, and daughter Michele (Chris) Moericke of Waterford, WI, as well as three grandchildren Amanda, Matthew, and Morgan.
A Funeral Service will be held for Yvonne on Saturday June 27, 2026 at 12:00pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home. Yvonne will be laid to rest in Lake View Cemetery in Calumet following the service.
