The Environmental Protection Agency, EGLE and Honeywell met with the Lake Linden community this spring to share information about an environmental cleanup project starting this summer in Torch Lake.
Crews working on the $12 million project will remove more than 13,300 cubic yards of contaminated sediment containing lead, zinc and PCBs left in the lake by the region’s mining industry. After the sediment is removed, crews will backfill the area with clean sand and material.
The project will force the closure of the Lake Linden Beach Area this summer. However, access to the campground and marina will continue as normal throughout the summer. Work will only affect the Lake Linden Beach Area. Boaters should watch for increased traffic on the lake while work occurs.
