MLB
The Tigers earned a dramatic 10-inning 5-4 comeback victory over the White Sox yesterday. Keider Montero turned in seven effective innings, allowing a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but left with Detroit trailing 3-1. Dillon Dingler’s 18th homer of the year in the bottom of the eighth narrowed the gap, and his RBI single in the bottom of the ninth tied the game. Detroit had a chance to win it with runners at first and third, but Kerry Carpenter’s groundout ended the inning. Will Vest retired all three batters he faced in the top of the 10th, but two were on sacrifice flies that enabled Chicago’s ghost runner to score. Carpenter was Detroit’s ghost runner in the bottom of the tenth. He moved to third on a single by Riley Greene, and scored on a single by Spencer Torkelson. Matt Vierling’s single to right field drove Greene home with the winning run.
After sweeping the Sox, the Tigers host the Yankees tonight. Framber Valdez will start against Gerrit Cole. Coverage will begin at 5:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers broke their three-game losing streak by clobbering the Braves 9-4 yesterday. After spotting Atlanta a 1-0 lead, Milwaukee blew the game open with eight runs in the top of the second inning. Sal Frelick’s two-run double opened the scoring. Then, with two outs, David Hamilton doubled Frelick home. After RBI singles from Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang, William Contreras capped the inning with a three-run homer. Robert Gasser earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs over six innings.
The Brewers visit the Reds tonight. Brandon Woodruff could return from the injured list to start for Milwaukee. Brady Singer will start for Cincinnati.
NFL
The timeline for pass rusher Micah Parsons’ return to the Packers lineup has lengthened again. After undergoing ACL repair surgery late last year, the team hoped he would be able to rejoin the lineup by late September. Parsons’ brother now says Micah could be out until early November, or later. Both Micah and team officials have emphasized that they’re more concerned with his long-term health than with rushing him back early.
