Fast Pitch Softball
The Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League opened play last evening…
- Northern Wishes clobbered Superior Service 14-1. Rosalie Kangas and Janet Mattila pitched for Northern Wishes, and struck out 10. Reagan Moyle took the loss with relief from Josie Connors. For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonen had a triple and a single, Janet Mattila had a double and a single, and Rachel Kinnunen and Svea Johnson each had two singles. For Superior Service, Molly Bugni and MacKenzie Ekdahl each had a single.
- Gold Standard blanked Moyle/Finnish Coat 10-0. Payton Goldsworthy struck out nine and earned the complete-game win. She also had a triple, two doubles and a single. Taylor Goldsworthy had a home run. For Moyle/Finnish Coat, Alana Nolan and Romi Mattson each had a single.
Twilight League

- REL/Mohawk Technology faces Garnet Garage at the Houghton Field.
- Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker meets Houghton Building Supply-Stanton at the Stanton Field.
MLB
Colt Keith hit three home runs, as the Tigers blasted the Astros 9-3 last night. Kevin McGonigle and Spencer Torkelson also homered. Troy Melton was scheduled to start for Detroit, but was scratched with back tightness. Drew Anderson opened, and Kyle Finegan got the win in relief. Keith is the youngest Tiger to have a three-homer game since Al Kaline did it at age 20 in 1955.
The Tigers visit the Astros again tonight. Framber Valdez will face Hunter Brown. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Gleyber Torres left last night’s game after feeling pain in his left side following a swing. He just returned from the injured list with a left oblique injury, and will be examined today.
Zack Short’s return to the Tigers was brief. After being designated for assignment a couple of days ago, he was claimed off waivers by the Mets.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and welcome the Guardians tonight. Robert Gasser will pitch against Slade Cecconi.

- Erkkila Forest Products shut out Ahmeek Fire Department 9-0.
- Calumet Electronics got past Dreamland 6-3.
- Harter’s Party Store blanked Loading Zone 9-0.
- Eva’s Hideaway downed Sayen’s Auto 6-3.
- Laurium One dispatched Bucko’s Party Store 7-2.
- Luigi’s Bar outscored Mohawk Superette 6-3.
