Louis “Uncle Lou” Chandonais, age 87, passed away on June 8, 2026, at his home with family by his side.
He was born on June 1, 1939, a son of Louis and Margaret Chandonais. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving his tour of duty in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a meat-cutter for several years. Louie, then attended Michigan Technological University for one year and became certified by the State of Michigan as a Tax Assessor/Property Appraiser. He was employed by the City of Ishpeming and later by Sault Sainte Marie. In 1972, he began employment at the KI Sawyer Air Force Base Commissary, and he retired from there as Commissary Officer. He and his family moved back to Houghton where he became a school bus driver for the Houghton Portage Township Schools. After retiring from there, he drove school bus for the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, retiring in 2006.
Preceding Louie in death was: daughter-Cheryl Kangas, son-Edward Chandonais, 2 grandsons-Christopher Kangas and Duane Kangas, brother-David Chandonais, and sister-Carol (Martin) Dennis.
He is survived by: his wife-Carol; daughter Denise (Chris) Miller; grandchildren-Matthew Kangas, Chantel McMillan, and Christeen Miller; greatgrandchildren-Tabby, Hannah, Libby, Justice, Morgan, Jack, Kai, Esmee, Natalie, and Bella; great-great-grandchild-Charity; and several nieces and nephews.
As requested by the deceased, there will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden at a later date. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
