The Keweenaw National Historic Park Advisory Commission shares the recipients of the Keweenaw Heritage Grant program.
In May, the Keweenaw National Historic Park’s Advisory Commission announced plans to award $149,911 to support historic preservation, historical interpretation, education programming and curatorial projects.
The funds will support 14 projects and programs with partners between Eagle River and Ontonagon. Projects awarded funds in 2026 will range from maintaining historic buildings to improving visitor accessibility and helping to digitize archives.
Since 2008, the Advisory Commission’s Keweenaw Heritage Grants have awarded $2.2 million to historic properties with cultural significance to the region.
The grants represent a significant investment in preserving the Keweenaw Peninsula’s rich mining heritage and making historical resources more accessible to visitors and researchers. The funding helps ensure that important cultural sites and collections remain available for future generations.
The program demonstrates the ongoing commitment to maintaining the region’s historical legacy while adapting preservation efforts to meet modern needs, including digital accessibility and improved visitor experiences.
