Construction near downtown will close traffic as work continues on a major development project.
Moyle Construction Company’s ongoing work on UP State Bank and Moyle Condo project downtown will affect traffic patterns beginning today. The city announced that construction moving to the north side of the project site will close through traffic on Lakeshore Drive behind the construction area.
The city assures residents, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, vehicles will still have access to their properties from Lake Street. However, through traffic will not continue west from the Lake Street access point.
The city will keep the parking lot north of the project site open during summer, with entry available only from Franklin Square. This arrangement helps maintain some parking availability while construction progresses.
The traffic closures on Lakeshore Drive behind the UP State Bank and Moyle condo site will remain in effect throughout the foundation phase of the condo project. The extended timeline reflects the complexity of the construction work in the downtown area.
Those with questions about the traffic changes or construction timeline should contact the Houghton city office, 906-482-1700.
