High School
In high school baseball yesterday…
- Hancock swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 15-0 and 8-2. The Bulldogs took command in the opener with 10 runs in the second inning, powered by a Todd Kilpela inside-the-park home run. Hancock got just four hits in the game, but took advantage of 12 walks. The game was halted after three innings because of the mercy rule. In the nightcap, triples by Ben Karanen and Chase Keranen and a double by Trent Pietila helped the Bulldogs score four runs in the first inning. Pietila added an inside-the-park home run in the fifth.

In softball…
- Houghton swept Gogebic, 13-3 and 3-2. In game one, the Gremlins scored in every inning except the first. Josie Switzer had four hits, including a double and a triple. Ellie Hainault and Paige Nettel each had three hits. Switzer went the full six innings in the circle, and held the Miners to just four hits. In game two, Lexi Burns tripled and stole home in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate the winning run. Romi Mattson also had a triple. Hainault pitched all seven innings, gave up five hits, and struck out 10.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell blanked Hancock 2-0. Payton Goldsorthy’s two-run homer in the first inning provided the game’s only scoring. Goldsworthy pitched the full seven innings for the Lakes, gave up three hits, and struck out 16. Lucy Biekkola took the tough loss for Hancock, giving up just four hits.
At the North Dickinson Boosters Track Invitational yesterday…
- The Forest Park boys finished fourth, behind Rapid River, Norway and Stephenson. Dietrich Rasner of the Trojans won the 300-meter hurdles, and finished third in the 110. The Trojans also won the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
- The Forest Park girls placed second, just four points behind the host Nordics, and one point ahead of Bark River-Harris. Ava Fischer took the 100 and 300-meter hurdles and the pole vault. The Trojans also won the 4×400 relay.

- The Pistons remained alive, with a 116-109 victory over the Magic. Cade Cunningham scored 45 points, Tobias Harris added 23, and Ausar Thompson grabbed 15 rebounds. Orlando still leads the series, 3-2, and Detroit will face them in another must-win game Friday in Florida. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
- The Cavaliers edged the Raptors 125-120. Cleveland takes a 3-2 lead in that series.
- The Rockets shut down the Lakers 99-93. L.A. maintains a 3-2 lead in that set.

In the NHL playoffs last night…
- The Canadiens shaded the Lightning 3-2. Montreal takes a 3-2 series lead.
- The Flyers dispatched the Penguins 1-0 in overtime. Philadelphia advances with a 4-2 series victory.
- The Golden Knights edged the Mammoth 5-4 in double overtime. Vegas takes a 3-2 series lead.
Tonight…
- The Wild host the Stars. Minnesota leads that set 3-2.
- The Ducks welcome the Oilers. Anaheim is up 3-2 in that series.
MLB
Matt Olson’s two-run homer off Kenley Janson in the bottom of the ninth gave the Braves a 4-3 victory over the Tigers last night. The late meltdown spoiled a great start by Tarik Skubal, who gave up a two-run homer in the first inning, but then pitched through the seventh. Riley Greene homered for Detroit.
Those teams play again today in Atlanta. Framber Valdez will start against Bryce Elder. Coverage will begin at 11:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers have placed Javier Báez and Casey Mize on the injured list. Báez sprained an ankle in Tuesday’s game. He could miss 10 days. Mize left with what has been diagnosed as a right adductor strain. He’s expected to miss a couple of weeks. Pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus and infielder Jace Jung have been brought up from Toledo to fill in.
The Brewers dropped a 6-2 decision to the Diamondbacks last night. Brandon Sproat gave up four runs in the fourth inning on a pair of homers, left in the fifth, and took the loss.
The Brewers host the D-Backs again today. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Michael Soroka.
Milwaukee has added reliever Angel Zerpa to the injured list with tightness in his throwing arm. Brian Fitzpatrick has been called up from Nashville. Outfielder Luis Matos has cleared waivers after having been designated for assignment, and will report to the Sounds.
