Visit Keweenaw will host the Michigan Sustainable Tourism Summit next month as part of its five-year initiative to promote sustainable tourism in the Copper Country.
The four-day summit runs May 20-23 at the McArdle Theater and will tackle topics focused on sustainability, community collaboration and destination stewardship.
Sustainable tourism focuses on balancing the needs of visitors and host communities while protecting existing infrastructure and the environment. The approach aims to help tourism economies manage their impacts on rural communities.
During the event, attendees will hear from several experts, including Leave No Trace’s Matt Schneider as the summit’s keynote speaker.
The Michigan Sustainable Tourism Summit targets regional leaders, business owners, planners and community stakeholders. Participants will explore practical tools and learn about sustainable practices designed to minimize tourism’s impact on local communities.
