Donor exhaustion is a real issue nonprofits around the community contend with, making it important to find alternative ways to raise funds for large operations that provide significant impacts.
Last month, Copper Country Humane Society raised nearly $5,000 with the community’s help during March Muttness. But organizations need support throughout the year. With spring on its way, CCHS has organized a new plant sale for the spring.
Assistant Shelter Manager Rebecca Brink says there are not many resources that connect nonprofits with fundraising ideas.
“It’s funny because we’re going to be doing poorly drawn pets towards the end of the month. And that was just a throw away idea from Baltimore Animal Shelter. And it just ended up being such a huge thing for them, at a bunch of other shelters it caught on,” Brink said. “So it’s just, you never quite know what’s going to catch on. And yeah, it’s a lot of fun.”
The Flower Power fundraiser with the Copper Country Humane Society will deliver plants to homes. Staff at the shelter add that the fundraiser functions in a way that orders aren’t limited to supporters in the local area.
“Nice, easy one for us. You guys just order and we get 50% of the profit. And the awesome thing is there’s a 100% growth guarantee. As long as you follow all the directions and everything, get in touch if you have any troubles, but you’re definitely gonna have some pretty flowers,” Brink said.
Brink says nonprofits should try new things, especially when past fundraising strategies stagnate. Copper Country Humane Society has found support from the community earns a boost when fundraising offers ways to engage with organizations, volunteers and board members.
Near the end of April, CCHS plans to run the Poorly Drawn Pets fundraiser. That opportunity will pair up dogs and cats with a local artist for a creative portrait. Those interested in helping the shelter as an artist can contact Copper Country Humane Society for more information. Pet parents who want a poorly drawn pet portrait should check out the shelter’s Facebook page for fundraiser details later in the month.
