Houghton County Memorial Airport TSA workers organize donation drive to support employees

Houghton County Memorial Airport has organized a donation drive to support Transportation Security Administration workers affected by the recent government shutdown. 

The airport announced the initiative on Facebook, explaining how the shutdown has impacted TSA workers at small regional airports in the Upper Peninsula. The post noted that TSA workers have committed their careers to ensuring safe travel and have continued working without guarantee of payment. 

Ten TSA workers at Houghton County Memorial Airport have organized the donation drive. The program accepts only gift cards worth $10 to $20 to local shops — no cash donations. 

Donations can be dropped off at the airport operations counter inside the terminal Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Find donation guidelines below:

• No cash donations
• Gift cards only (grocery stores, gas stations, or restaurants)
• No Visa or prepaid credit card gift cards
• Gift cards must be in the amount of $10 or $20. $20 is the max allowable per card.
• Any items outside of these guidelines cannot be accepted
Drop-Off Location:
Donations can be accepted at the airport operations counter. You can access airport operations from inside the terminal, or by using the door to the left of the main terminal entrance when walking in from the parking lot. You can drop off donations Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm. If you need something outside of these days/times, contact the airport and we could work something out.
